Students follow the OCR GCSE Linear course and will study areas
involving number, algebra, geometry and handling data. The course will involve
using both calculator and non-calculator techniques to solve mathematical
problems or complete tasks.
Pupils will take a tier of entry appropriate to their ability. Foundation tier covers GCSE grades C to G and Higher tier covers GCSE grades A* to D.
There is also an opportunity for some students to sit the Additional Maths paper gaining an extra GCSE.

Syllabus/exam board & tiers of entry
The
scheme of work followed by students in KS4 has been written in accordance with
the OCR Mathematics Syllabus A. This is the linear route. Students
are entered for either the Higher or Foundation tier. Higher Tier allows
students to achieve grades A*-D and Foundation Tier allows students to achieve
grades C to G. In some instances students are not entered for GCSE, in
such circumstances these students follow the AQA Entry Level Syllabus.
Alternatively, students can be entered for both options.
Course content
The
course content is dictated by the OCR syllabus. The Mathematics
department has devised a scheme of work around this. Students studying for
the higher tier examination cover; geometric reasoning, algebra ,handling data integers, area & perimeter, linear graphs,
pythagoras & trigonometry, fractions, decimals & percentages, transformations,
measures, powers & roots, sequences, volume & surface area, ratio &
proportion, construction & loci, probability, non-linear graphs, sine &
cosine rule, vectors, transforming graphs.
Students
studying for the foundation tier examination cover; area & perimeter,
integers, linear graphs, handling data , algebra , number , properties of
shape, transformations, measures, fractions, decimals & percentages,
sequences, geometric reasoning, volume
& surface area, probability, co-ordinates & Pythagoras, ratio &
proportion, transformations, construction & loci.
GCSE method of assessment
Students
complete two written papers, one calculator and one non-calculator.
The higher tier papers are 2 hours in duration, the foundation tier papers are 1.5 hours in duration. Mock papers are completed in Years 10 and 11.

Homework
This is
usually consolidation work. Assignment/Homework is set on a weekly basis. Support for students
and parents can be found on www.mymaths.co.uk.
Students will be given their login and passwords details at the start of
September.
